First Past The Post
Because candidates can get elected under FPTP with a minority, the main benefits go to:
- Politicians who want to confuse the voters by encouraging tactical voting, even when there might not be a need for it;
- Politicians who want a job for life by splitting votes between the other parties, and end up being complacent and lazy.
Because candidates have to get a true majority with AV, the main benefits go to:
- Voters who are properly represented by their MP, rather than the minority who previously could abuse the system;
- Politicians who want to properly represent their constituency, rather than push their career.
